The town is fairly decent looking and there are some nice houses (you’ll get a lot more for your money than London!), but the traffic in and out in rush hour is pretty bad. We are moving from Kent to Lincolnshire, we would like a respectable, pretty village location, semi-rural, we do not need to worry about commuting or schools, but would like to be within easy reach of a town up to 20 minutes by car would be fine. Avoid Upper Parkstone and anything on the other side of Ashley Road. Everything in central. Frankly - he has no intention of moving on from his sweet, rent-free set up and striking out on his own, having to find and fund his own accommodation and he obviously isn't respecting the will, your sister's role as executor or you and your sister as beneficiaries. Goodness knows why your neighbours are sticking their oars in, but I can’t see you are doing anything wrong. There are nice areas but you will be cheek by jowl with very rough areas too. However I'd potentially look at areas just outside of Sheffield for living, as unless you want to spend a lot a lot of the places aren't super nice to live. The North Deeside Road is a good bus route so you wouldn’t go far wrong being close to it. Living by the sea, but commutable to town if I wanted would sway me to Newcastle. My husband commuted to London. I would look at Melrose, Peebles, the coast. It's still beautiful though. We'd absolutely not move back! It's built for tourists and that's it. When we came there was one Italian restaurant, Pizza Hut (long gone), and the Chinese buffet. uk We have found a very nice house on the market in Hawick, but have seen information that gives the town a reputation for being insular and unfriendly to people settling there from outside the area (I'm a Londoner and my wife has been an adopted Londoner for about 20 years). There is a nice park in High Barnet (Old Court House) and Victoria Park in New Barnet and Oak Hill Park in East Barnet (in the summer we go up to St Albans for the splash park in Verulamium Park).
